Meet the Makers 2022

'Meet the Makers' is an event organised by Video Snackbar Hub, part of Future Media Hubs. Future Media Hubs is an international network of media organisations that focuses on innovation through collaboration and knowledge sharing created by VRT and RTBF. To inspire you and to share the secrets that the future of media holds we organise ‘Meet the Makers’, a bleeding edge crossover event with visual content creators - the makers - from all over Europe. We’d love to welcome you to this event at our offices at VRT in Brussels on 22 September where we will present cutting-edge cases and plenty of networking opportunities! All our sessions will be presented in English. 

We will tickle your ears by taking a listen on what the future of audio will bring, how we are creating a state of the art LED-wall studio and how we are targeting young audiences online with traditional media content.

 

Take a look at our eight sessions for you to enjoy:

  • 9u40 - 10u10: [Session 1: podcasting] Wouter Van Driessche from Belgian newspaper De Standaard en Basia Cummings from audio company Tortoise are going to kick things off. Do you want to discover all the secrets Wouter from De Standaard will share on how they created their own audio platform or how slow news works? Then this session is your thing. #audio
     
  • 10u10 - 10u40: [Session 2: panel discussion on Podcasting] Wouter from De Standaard and Basia from Tortoise will enter a panel after their presentations to discuss, how media companies can position themselves in this current market #audio
     
  • 10u40 - 11u10: [Session 3: creating content in the metaverse] Do you have any idea how to create captivating media in the metaverse? No worries if not! Sofie Hvitved from the Copenhagen Institute for Social Studies will bring you completely up to speed in this inspiring workshop! #metaverse 
     
  • 11u10 - 11u40: [Session 4: Panel about creating media in the metaverse] In this fourth session we will host another panel discussion. Anne McKinnon from start-up Ristband (a multiplayer concert platform) will join Sofie Hvitved on stage. Together they will discuss and explore how you can elevate the user experience in the metaverse in a very interactive way #metaverse
     
  • 11u40 - 12u10: [Session 5: LED-wall studio productions] The French speaking public broadcaster in Belgium, RTBF is building their own state of the art LED-wall studio, a huge innovation that is captivating Hollywood at this point in time. Hervé Verloes from RTBF and start-up Poolpio will explain how this new technology is being built in Belgium. #production
     
  • 13u30 - 14u00: [Session 6: Wireless connectivity through 5G] In this first afternoon session we will introduce you to some new innovative ways to up the game of your wireless activities in the future through 5G. We are more than happy to introduce you to Starlink presented by Jonathan De Bolster (VRT)  and 5G expert Morten Brandstrup (TV2 Denmark) #connectivity
     
  • 14u45 - 15u40: [Session 7: Reaching young audiences through interactivity] In this last panel discussion we’ll introduce you to these experts: Oyvind Helland from the Norse public broadcaster NRK and Joachim Vandoorne from Dutch speaking public broadcaster VRT will discuss their viewpoints on how to reach young audiences using current interactive platforms online and some that are custom made. A trip taking us from a social gaming house to Roblox, how do we reach these kids? #interaction
     
  • 14u45 - 15u15: [Session 8: making content for young people] To close this event we will present you with two true ‘makers’. Robert Van Impe, known online as Average Rob and Thomas Symons fromVRT. How did Belgian Robert Van Impe successfully create a YouTube-channel in English? And what is according to Thomas the best social media strategy to create online content for VRTs soap ‘Thuis’? #interaction
