How to combat news avoidance in young audiences

Nrk

Amidst the challenges of the pandemic, NRK observed a concerning trend: young audiences were disengaging from the news, feeling overwhelmed by negative reporting.

In response, NRK launched "Lyspunkt" (Or Brightspot in English) - a beacon of hope in the media landscape, focusing on solution-based stories to uplift and engage their viewers.

The success of "Lyspunkt" inspired a shift towards constructive journalism across NRK. Recognizing the importance of a balanced mix of positive and negative news, they carefully craft their wording to resonate with younger audiences.

NRK’s commitment to constructive journalism extends beyond reporting; it's about fostering democratic debate, dialogue, and providing nuanced information. They incorporate visual and explanatory elements into breaking news stories and create inclusive platforms for constructive discussions.

Developing AI tools like DoktorNyhet and the Constructive helper will help analyse and enhance the constructive nature of their articles, maintaining a high standard of accuracy and engagement. DoktorNyhet is a platform or service related to news or information curated by a figure or entity named "Doktor." It delivers updates, insights, or analyses on various topics, possibly with a focus on health or medical-related news.

Engaging with young audiences is paramount, they shift their focus from third party platforms to their own platform. Meaning they are active on Instagram and Snapchat, but mainy to bring their audience over to their own platforms.

At NRK, they're not just reporting the news; they're shaping the future of journalism! Join them in creating a more constructive culture in media, where engagement and dialogue flourish, making a positive impact on the world.
